WHAT’S NEW: 2013 LEXUS RX 450h

HIGHLIGHTS
 
The 2013 Lexus RX 450h -- the world’s first hybrid luxury SUV -- is a true performance vehicle. Hybrids account for one out of every five Lexus vehicles sold. With a focus on comfort and convenience, the 2013 edition features many new technology upgrades, including the new 2nd generation Lexus Remote Touch for controlling navigation, as well as enhanced audio systems and upgraded gauges.  There’s a new drive mode select system, with Sport, Eco and Normal driving modes allowing for maximum efficiency or tune dynamics for a sportier drive. On the exterior, the 2013 model features a fresh new look with the Lexus signature spindle grille, new headlamps with LED lights and more. The RX 450h carries an MSRP starting at $56,750, which is $2,950 less than the model it replaces, while featuring additional content and the most value-priced hybrid since the 2008 model year.
 
PERFORMANCE
 
  • The 2013 Lexus RX 450h, with its 3.5L V6 engine generating an output of 295 horsepower at 4,800 rpm, has sequential shift mode for its automatic, continuously variable transmission (CVT). A new drive mode select system with Sport, Eco and Normal driving modes allows for optimal efficiency or a sporty, dynamic drive. Sport mode changes acceleration response as well as characteristics of the electric power steering system. The EV mode is now accessible via a dedicated button on center console, and the hybrid system indicator has been revised, now with coloured zones for Charge, Eco and Power.

  • New and upgraded features in the RX 450h for the 2013 model year include:
    • Exterior upgrades: revised tail lamps, now featuring vortex generators and modified lenses; updated rear license plate garnish; all-new front fascia, sporting Lexus signature spindle grille, new headlamps (with LED light strip) and revised fog lamp bezel
    • Interior enhancements: New steering wheel design; garage door opener location moved from overhead console to more convenient rear-view mirror; centre console box reconfigured to feature more hidden storage compartments, pen holder in the lid, wider opening angle and the ability to hold larger items such as a tablet computer;
    • Improved audio and technology: USB audio easier to access; dedicated “fan off” button for HVAC units; headlamp warning (chime and displayed message) for when headlamps are left on; larger back-up camera image in rear-view mirror; Vehicle Proximity Notification System added as standard equipment to alert pedestrians of an approaching vehicle

  • The 2013 Lexus RX 450h features important standard safety technologies:
    • Dual-stage driver and passenger airbag supplemental restraint system (SRS)
    • Front-seat-mounted side airbag, side roll-sensing curtain airbags (RSCA) and rear-seat side airbags
    • Active front headrests with whiplash protection
    • LED brake lamps
    • Anti-theft system and engine immobilizer

  • There are three options for the 2013 Lexus RX 450h:
    • Touring Package includes P235/55R19 tires; 18” aluminum alloy wheels; 12-speaker Lexus premium audio; single in-dash DVD; rear subwoofer; wallet-size smart card key; voice-activated HDD navigation system with remote touch; XM real-time traffic capability; power folding mirrors; electrochromic side-view mirrors
    • Ultra Premium Package 1 builds on the Touring Package, with: heated wood steering wheel; 15-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound audio system; 7.1 channel Surround Sound speaker architecture; front-seat power thigh support; semi-aniline leather seat surfaces; intuitive parking assist; head-up display; roof rail crossbars; rear cupholder woodgrain trim; wood and leather-wrapped shift knob; wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel; front-illuminated doorsill trim; LED headlamps; package with blind-spot monitor and lane-change assist also available
    • Ultra Premium Package 2: offers all of Ultra Premium Package 1, plus: two sets of wireless headphones; dual-screen rear-seat DVD entertainment system; audio and DVD remote control; pre-collision system; dynamic radar cruise control; 120V/400-watt power outlet; package with blind-spot monitor and lane-change assist also available
    • Available external colours: Starfire Pearl; Silver Lining Metallic; Nebula Grey Pearl; Starlight Black Mica; Fire Agate Pearl; Satin Cashmere Metallic.
    • Available Interiors: leather or semi-aniline leather material, with interior colour of black, parchment, saddle tan/black, or light grey
