Learn Origami with the Lexus Takumi Cats!

What does Origami – the Japanese art of paper folding – have to do with building luxury automobiles? At Lexus, a lot!

To explain – and to give those staying at home as part of Canada’s current social distancing regimen something fun to do – Lexus has created an animated video that demonstrates how to create an origami cat.

“We call them Takumi Cats, because they’re used to test the dexterity of our Lexus Takumi Masters – the artisans who are trusted with the most critical processes when we build a Lexus vehicle,” said Melanie Testani, Brand Manager, Lexus Canada. “We thought Canadians looking to learn a new skill while at home might enjoy testing their dexterity in the same way as our most accomplished craftspeople.”

Each day before Takumi Masters can work on Lexus vehicles, they must fold the Takumi cat in under 90 seconds … with their non-dominant hand! Can you beat the masters? Now’s your chance to try: The Lexus Takumi Cat Challenge can be found on the Lexus Canada Instagram and Facebook pages, which also have colouring pages and other activities for kids of all ages.
