Forged from the track, up: the 2017 Lexus RC F answers the call of the road

The high-performance luxury coupe, as only Lexus could imagine it

(TORONTO, ON – November 29, 2016) The 2017 Lexus RC F is a remarkable luxury coupe – built around the most powerful V8 ever offered by Lexus, and boasting chassis and handling dynamics honed to perfection on the grueling Fuji Speedway and the Nürburgring Circuit.

“The Lexus RC F is a feat of performance engineering – designed for the most demanding driving enthusiast,” said Jennifer Barron, Director of Lexus in Canada. “From the first drive, our Canadian guests will understand the meaning of ‘pulse-quickening excitement’.”

The 2017 Lexus RC F (starting MSRP $85,000) is built around a 5.0L V8 that delivers up to 467 horsepower and up to 389 lb-ft of torque – ensuring the RC F more than lives up to its bold performance-inspired ideals. More impressively, the RC F delivers “smart” power – in many ways.

For the first time in a Lexus performance engine, the RC F uses the Atkinson Cycle at cruising speeds and seamlessly switches to the Otto Cycle for higher RPM, delivering high fuel efficiency plus an impressive 7,300 RPM operating range.

This is harnessed through a lightning-quick eight-speed Sports Direct Shift transmission offering manual control through steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. When not in Manual mode, the transmission automatically detects curves and holds the lower gear to give optimal response when accelerating out.

Every RC F is carefully engineered for maximum airflow with minimum turbulence – including an active rear wing. This automatically deploys from the trunk lid at speeds above 80 km/h to smooth airflow from the roof and ensure excellent down force for handling stability.

Precise handling is further enhanced through almost every engineering decision for the RC F. The track-tested chassis is highly rigid to withstand high G-force maneuvers. New for 2017, the RC F now features a Linear Adaptive Variable Suspension system (AVS), controling dampening force with more precision. Meantime, the Sport Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (Sport VDIM) system helps prevent skids even before they occur, to keep maximum power under control.

While the RC F lives for the track, Lexus also knows that – unfortunately – not every day is track day. So the RC F is also designed to make everyday driving enjoyable and exciting. The joy starts at first glance. Every RC F is sculpted for optimum aerodynamics and cooling – which also happens to look great from every angle. The mesh-pattern grille dominates the front view, accented with L-shaped air scoops. At the rear, stacked quad tailpipes add to the expression of aggressive strength. Machine-polished 18” forged aluminum wheels are designed to dazzle. A hood scoop emphasizes the RC F’s aggressive styling, while a power slide/tilt moon roof adds elegance.

The interior is equally athletic and forceful, with unique LED ambient lighting. Low-set, high-back seats are uniquely constructed to disperse body pressure while keeping occupants firmly planted during high-spirited driving. The front seats are power-adjustable and heated, plus feature ventilation fans for maximum comfort. A Lexus-first steering wheel features an elliptical cross-section and thick grip that feels as if it was molded to the driver’s hands, while the instrument cluster is adopted from the Lexus LFA Super Car. The gauges and multi-information display – including the G Meter and Torque Distribution Meter – put vital information where it’s needed. A voice-activated navigation system with Lexus Remote Touch helps get drivers to the track – or anywhere else – on time.

As a Lexus, the RC F also features a long list of advanced yet intuitive technology systems as standard. These include intuitive parking assist, the smart key system with push button start, dynamic radar cruise control, and more.

Equally impressive are the RC F’s safety features – from the eight airbags… to the LED headlamps, tail lamps, daytime running lamps and stop lamps… to the direct tire pressure monitoring system… to the onboard first aid kit… Lexus has everything covered. Advanced tech safety systems offered as standard equipment include the Blind Spot Monitor System with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, the Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beam function.

The 2017 Lexus RC F may also be fitted with an available Performance Package. This model (starting MSRP $92,700) adds a Torque Vectoring Differential, which enhances cornering performance through three driver-selectable settings. The Performance Package also adds unique 19” forged aluminum wheels, weight reducing carbon fibre roof and rear spoiler, and more.
