(TORONTO, ON – October 14 2015) Lexus has taken its signature GS sport sedan and buried the needle in the red with the introduction of the all-new, 2016 Lexus GS F. Joining the Lexus “F” series portfolio of high-performance luxury sports cars that have been tested and proven on some of the most challenging race tracks in the world, the GS F combines the speed and agility of a premium, authentic sports car with the opulence and refinements of a four-door luxury sedan.
“Our GS guests have always been our test pilots, being the first to experience many of our ground-breaking performance, stylistic and technological innovations,” said Cyril Dimitris, Director of Lexus in Canada. “Now, we’ve given the GS the “F” series treatment – infusing the drive with power and responsiveness that will make every moment behind the wheel an adventure – whether they’re on their way to a meeting or grabbing some time on the track.”
Power and Performance
The GS F delivers a driving experience that can only be described as “shocking” – because it performs in a manner that’s completely unexpected from a luxury sedan.
A naturally-aspirated, Atkinson-cycle 5.0L V8 generates 467 peak horsepower at 7,100 RPM and up to 389 lb-ft of torque. This engine features a 12.3:1 compression ratio fitted with a long list of Lexus engine-management technologies to maximize power, responsiveness and efficiency while minimizing emissions.
Like the RC F, the GS F is also equipped with Active Sound Control technology, which can be activated to enhance engine and exhaust notes inside the cabin for a more exciting driving experience.
The GS F’s powertrain is mated to a lightning-quick eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission. This transmission delivers shifts as quick as one-tenth of a second, or may be controlled via steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for precise manual gear changes when desired. The GS F’s power is further enhanced by the vehicle’s class-leading lightness, which means it’s quick off the starting line and surprisingly fuel efficient for a high-performance sports sedan.
Handling, Control and Driving Dynamics
Advanced technologies and performance enhancements ensure maximum driving control no matter where you’re headed. Everything between the powertrain and the pavement is tuned for remarkable high-speed handling, steering and stopping.
The GS F is fitted with the Lexus Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) – introduced on the RC F high-performance coupe. Guest may configure the TVD between Normal, Track and Slalom modes to adapt to any driving condition.
The GS F is also equipped with a four-setting drive mode selector, which allows the driver to choose between Eco, Normal, Sport and Sport+ configurations to match their mood and driving style.
A custom configured suspension featuring a double-wishbone front assembly and multi-link rear optimizes handling without detracting from the GS F’s comfortable ride. Handling and control are further enhanced with a specially-tuned version of the Lexus Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, plus steering and braking systems capable of wrangling and directing the GS F’s powerful output. Massive brakes – 15” up front and 13.6” at the rear – also ensure plenty of stopping power.
Bold Exterior Styling Promises An Adrenaline-Pumping Drive
With the GS F, Lexus designers have crafted a vehicle with the looks to match its impressive performance, delivering on the brand’s commitment to offer striking, vehicles that make a strong impression.
Adhering to the Lexus credo of design with purpose, the GS F’s pronounced mesh grille is flanked by large air vents, which exude style even as they breathe aggression and enhance engine and front brake cooling.
Signature exterior Lexus components include the Spindle grille and slim canted LED headlights. The GS F’s track-tested performance is conveyed through numerous other details including its wide, low stance, 19” forged aluminum wheels revealing orange-painted brake calipers, stacked quad exhaust diffusers with chrome tips, carbon-fiber rear spoiler, and “F” series badging. In short, the GS F is designed to impress, whether coming or going.
Premium yet functional interior styling delivers design with purpose
Grab your aviators, because the cabin also promises a thrilling ride, with a design that evokes the cockpit of a modern fighter jet. Carbon composite interior trim, a premium illuminated entry system, and heads-up display are hallmarks of the sleek, sporty cabin.
Specially designed seating holds driver and passengers securely and comfortably during high performance maneuvers, while the instrument panels – inspired by those in the Lexus LFA Supercar – can be configured to match the four selectable drive modes, and include a G-force readout.
“All-in” configuration features long list of premium amenities as standard
The GS F is offered as a single, fully-equipped model, including many premium features as standard. The long specification list includes: a 17-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Audio system; a 12.3” LCD display; TFT multi-information display with steering wheel-mounted controls; voice recognition; a navigation system; a three-zone independent automatic climate control with the climate concierge system; power adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats with seat memory systems; a heated, leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel on a power tilting/telescoping column; LED map lamps; heated, power-folding and auto-dimming exterior side mirrors; a power tilting/sliding moon roof; integrated garage door opener; push button start; power-assisted trunk closer; and more.
Safety
Even with its sporty styling and high-performance engineering, safety is also important – which is why the GS F is one of the first Lexus models to be equipped with the Lexus Safety System+. This system comprises the Lexus Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beam technologies to help drivers avoid dangerous situations.
The GS F is further equipped with many additional active and passive safety systems and technologies – including 10 airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Antilock Braking System enhanced with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake force Distribution, the Lexus Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert Systems, Lane Keeping Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, clearance and backup sensors, a backup camera, auto-leveling headlamps with washers, an on-board first aid kit, and more.
