· Lexus’ Canadian success story continues with record sales to date in 2025
TORONTO, JULY 17th, 2025 – This year marks the 35th anniversary for Lexus in Canada - a milestone the luxury brand is celebrating with a series of three exclusive regional events, each highlighting a different chapter in the Lexus journey: the past, present, and future.
The first event, held in February in Quebec, honoured the brand’s heritage with a focus on the evolution of Lexus SUVs. Invited media explored how Lexus pioneered the luxury crossover segment with the launch of the RX — a vehicle that redefined the category and continues to be a cornerstone of the brand’s success.
In June, Lexus hosted the second event in Southwestern Ontario, where Lexus executives highlighted both the history of the brand and delivered a “state of the company” address. Reaffirming its longstanding commitment to this country, and its status as the only luxury automaker that builds vehicles in Canada, Lexus hosted the event at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC), where Lexus assembles its best-selling models – the NX and RX.
Invited media and guests gained insight into the strength of Lexus’ position in Canada today. The event showcased the brand’s growing sales momentum, leading dealer network, and diverse lineup of luxury vehicles — all tied to the overarching theme of Craftsmanship. It also emphasized the important role played by its Canadian manufacturing operations at TMMC, which continues to produce some of the world’s highest-quality vehicles for the North American market.
TMMC has a long history as a contributor to the success of Lexus in Canada and across North America – and the plant’s story is one of many important achievements. TMMC built its first luxury SUV, a Lexus RX 330, in 2003 – becoming the first plant outside of Japan to build a Lexus. The plant also holds the honour of the being the first outside Japan to build a Lexus hybrid vehicle, when it started producing the RX 450h in 2014. Today, TMMC continues to build RX models as well as the NX series, which it began assembling in 2022.
TMMC has assembled more than two million Lexus vehicles since 2003, representing more than half of all Lexus vehicles sold in North America, and is now recognized as the most awarded automotive manufacturing plant in the world – honoured with 23 J.D. Power Plant Quality Awards, 13 of which are Gold or Platinum.
As part of the event, Lexus highlighted TMMC’s award-winning quality and renowned craftsmanship. Media participated in an exclusive tour of the Lexus assembly lines, visited the Global Production Centre where team members undergo specialized training , and put new RX and NX vehicles through their paces on the plant’s test track. In addition to the Cambridge-built models, Lexus offered a broad selection of models for additional test drives - including its current luxury lineup of performance coupes, sedans, and unibody and body-on-frame SUVs. Media also got behind the wheel of a curated lineup of iconic heritage Lexus vehicles including the LS 400, SC 400, IS 300, RX 330, and SC 430.
Each of these vehicles reflected Lexus’ enduring commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail — the core elements of the Lexus DNA that have earned the brand widespread recognition over the years. Most recently, this dedication was reaffirmed in the 2025 J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study, where Lexus was ranked highest overall among all automotive brands.
“The past 35 years have been an incredible story of innovation and growth, and as we celebrate this important anniversary we do so with continued strong support from Canadian drivers – both long-time Lexus Guests and those new to the brand,” said Martin Gilbert, Director of Lexus Canada. “We’re honoured that so many Canadians have endorsed our vision of luxury with enthusiasm and loyalty – and we look forward to welcoming more Canadians to become Lexus Guests over the next 35 years.”
So far this year, a record number of Canadian luxury buyers have embraced the Lexus experience. Sales in the first six months of 2025 set a new record, with Lexus Guests purchasing more than 18,000 vehicles. That’s up 20.9% compared to 2024 and represents the best-ever January-June results. The second quarter – April to June – is in the books as the best-ever quarterly results for the brand. The month just finished also established several best-ever June records – including overall brand sales, plus best-ever June sales for the Lexus NX, TX, and GX models.
Significantly, Lexus luxury vehicles built around electrified powertrains account for nearly 60 percent of all year-to-date sales. Of the 16 models Lexus sells in Canada, 11 are available with an advanced, efficient, electrified powertrain – including hybrid-electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and pure battery electric choices.
This sales trend is expected to continue as Lexus continues to update and expand its industry-leading portfolio of electrified luxury vehicles:
· The company has announced a refreshed RZ for 2026, featuring 25 percent more range, faster charging times, and more power, plus innovative new features such as Lexus-first virtual manual gear shift system.
· Recently unveiled, the all-new 2026 Lexus ES series will be Lexus’ first model offered in both hybrid-electric and battery-electric powertrains, and adds the next generation of the Lexus Interface and Lexus Safety System+ 4.0.
Over the past 35 years in Canada, Lexus has delivered an unwavering dedication to exceptional craftsmanship, bold design, uncompromising quality, and an unmatched dealership experience. The anniversary celebrations will continue later this year with a third and final media event — one that looks ahead to the exciting future of the Lexus brand in Canada.
